Take-home Exercises

Graded take-home exercises for ISSS626: Geospatial Analytics and Applications at Singapore Management University. Each one is a self-contained analysis with its own data pipeline, technical report and executive summary.

01 Take-home Exercise 1

Point-pattern analysis of NASA FIRMS VIIRS active-fire detections in Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan, across the 2026 dry season. The analysis argues that a satellite hotspot is not a fire, replaces complete spatial randomness with an inhomogeneous Poisson null, and tests space-time interaction by random labelling with spatstat.

02 Take-home Exercise 2

Local spatial association and emerging hot spots of armed conflict across Myanmar’s 330 townships, January 2021 to September 2025, from ACLED political-violence events. Local Moran’s I and Gi* locate the clusters, Mann-Kendall and EHSA follow them through 19 quarters, and a spatial Markov chain tests whether violence spreads from a township to its neighbours.
